Townsend's guitar displays sheer sonic power throughout and Keith Moon's drums absolutely thunder. John Entwistle's bass booms with a lower bottom end and keeps everything anchored together and Roger Daltrey's vocal emit toughness and bluster. The band uses programmed synthesizers for the first time to great effect and never before did the The Who sound so loud and powerful in the studio.
