Kind of Blue isn't merely an artistic highlight for Miles Davis, it's an album that towers above its peers. Not necessarily the greatest jazz album ever made but certainly a universally acknowledged standard of excellence. An exceptional band including John Coltrane and Bill Evans, tunes that are moody and relaxing, music that flows easily yet it is much more than easy listening. With its classy, modernist, soulful, cerebral and impressionistic atmosphere it's the pinnacle of modal jazz and generally considered as the definitive jazz album.
