The first recording Gil Evans issued after three straight albums with Miles Davis is an album of calm, cinematic cool and third stream jazz. The music is of a wondrous variety and orchestrated less, instead concentrating on the rhythm section. The sonics are alternately warm, breezy, and nocturnal. Minimal and moody.
